Great start to the Regatta Season

The 2025 regatta season got off to an early, if slightly chilly start for LCPGC at Wraysbury reservoir on Saturday 25th Jan.

We fielded 1 men, 1 women's and 2 mixed crews.  With the top 5 crews (out of 9) from the heats going through to the finals, everyone gave their all in each heat to try and guarantee their berth in the final.

There were some very tight races with coxes coping well with the extremely tight turn at the start of the race, providing a great spectacle for the supporters who were enjoying the usual healthy feast of bacon rolls, sausage rolls and cake....

The men, women and one of the mixed crews made it through to the finals, ensuring LCPGC were well represented at the business end of the day.

Much like the morning's races, there was some great racing happening throughout all the finals.  The men achieved a fantastic 3rd place, smashing their morning heat time by over 30 seconds.  No need to mention the gig in front of us missing a turn but not getting penalised.....

The women again beat their morning heat time and put in a great performance to finish a wonderful 4th in their final, coming up against some extremely strong crews and still making a race of it for the podium.

The finals were finished with the mixed crews, where LCPGC again achieved a very respectful 4th place out of the 9 crews.

Overall, a wonderful day of gig racing, followed by some obligatory liquid refreshment and food in Richmond for the evening.  A great way for the club to start 2025.

Finally, a thank you to the organisers and all the gig clubs who made it such a good day of racing.  I would also like to make a special mention to Hora, for towing Pheonix to and from Wraysbury.

A great start to 2025, let's keep it going LCPGC!
